Exploring the Walled Town of Korcula, Croatia: Things to Do & Travel Guide
I got to do a bit of island hopping on my trip to Croatia and Korcula was one of the stops I needed to make. Done as an all-day trip between Dubrovnik and Split, Korcula ended up being one of my favourite destinations in Croatia!
(Please note that the town called Korcula is on an island also called Korcula. While some people have explored more of the island, my focus was on the walled town.)
Korcula History
Korcula Island’s history goes way back to when it was inhabited by the Greeks and Romans. However, the town of Korcula was built … Continue reading

London’s Harry Potter Studio Tour: a Magical Visit (Updated 2024)
I love Harry Potter. I’ve been a huge fan since childhood, have seen all the movies in theatres (which at this stage is admitting how old I am), and a nice collection of Harry Potter plushies. I even once hosted a Harry Potter-themed Christmas.
But you don’t need me to tell you how much Harry Potter means to millions of people around the globe. I don’t need to convince you to visit London’s Harry Potter Studio Tour. You’re already planning a trip there and screaming “take my money!” to see props, costumes, and behind-the-scenes looks at eight movies that helped … Continue reading

The Adorable Town of Mystic, CT – Things to Do & Travel Guide
Mystic, Connecticut was a place that came up frequently when I was planning for my New England road trip. Not only is the town adorable but there’s a reasonable amount of things to do in Mystic, CT, as well. It was definitely one of our favourite stops and this charming shipbuilding town should definitely be on your list for Connecticut.
Mystic’s History
The Pequot people lived in the area of Mystic until the European colonisers came. Unfortunately Mystic has a grim history. When the English started to settle, a war followed known today as the Pequot War. During the … Continue reading

A Visit to Historic Gettysburg – Things to Do & Travel Guide
For anyone wanting to learn more about American and Civil War history, Gettysburg, Pennsylvania is a great option. It’s filled with museums and sites of the battle that prove to be informative not only to the battle specifically but to American culture during the Civil War era in general. It’s also probably one of the best places to learn about this era of history as well.
I’m not interested in military history at all but I do come from a family filled with Civil War historians. So I hope that does shine through in this post even a little!
An

Discovering the Charm of Charleston – Things to Do & Travel Guide
I’d had a visit to Charleston in college and it was absolutely beautiful. However I was determined to visit again, armed with more information on things to do and where to explore. I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed by what Charleston has to offer and it always makes a fabulous trip.
Charleston’s History
Charleston has a much more interesting history than I had ever thought before my visit. The city as we know it was first colonised in 1670 as Charles Town. It was actually the only walled city in English American colonial history (which I find fascinating) … Continue reading

6 Easy Day Trips from Split, Croatia
There are a lot of easy day trips from Split to take, even if you don’t have a car. Split’s an excellent city in its own right, but it’s also a great place to base yourself to explore northern Dalmatia. Though I didn’t get to visit all the amazing places around Split, here are six places I did visit and what I thought of them.
Hvar
When I was researching where to visit in Croatia, Hvar was a name that came up repeatedly. I have to admit that I didn’t see much appeal in visiting Hvar since I’m more of … Continue reading

Visiting the Historic Harpers Ferry – Things to Do & Travel Guide
I live so close to Harpers Ferry and had heard so much about it from friends. But for some reason, I hadn’t been until during the pandemic. However, I was so pleasantly surprised to visit and see this centuries-old town for myself.
A History of Harpers Ferry
Harpers Ferry has a fairly straightforward history. The land belonged to a man named Robert Harper in 1750, and in 1761 he established a ferry to bring passengers into the Shenandoah Valley and farther west – thus the name Harpers Ferry. (the lack of an apostrophe was intentional) Being right at the … Continue reading

Exploring the Small Town of Sibenik, Croatia: Things to Do & Travel Guide
On my way from Split to Zadar, I opted to make a few stops at different towns to see the most of Croatia. One town I’d heard good things about was Sibenik, a little bayside town with a lot of charm. It’s a bit of a hidden gem but easily accessible, so I stopped in little Sibenik for a few hours. It was incredibly gorgeous and one of my favourite stops in Croatia.
The History of Sibenik
Sibenik (chi-ben-ick) has an unusual history for Croatia since it was founded by the Croats. It’s first mentioned in 1066 and was made … Continue reading

Exploring and Whale Watching in Provincetown, MA
I first saw Provincetown on Twitter and it was recommended a few more times. There are many small towns in Massachusetts’ famous Cape Cod but Provincetown looked like a good bet for a place to spend the day. I was so right – Provincetown is absolutely adorable!
Provincetown History
Provincetown today is located at the end tip of the Cape Cod spiral. The area of Provincetown had been inhabited by the local Wampanoags and Nausets for millennia before the pilgrims from Europe arrived. The famous pilgrims first arrived in Provincetown before continuing onto Plymouth – another great stop (post coming … Continue reading

A Day Trip to Scenic Montenegro: Perast & Kotor
Admittedly, I sometimes like visiting countries for the sake of it, and I opted to take a day trip down to Montenegro (Kotor and Perast) when I was in Dubrovnik. It was beyond my expectations and so worth a trip. Kotor actually ended up being one of the highlights of my vacation and both places are on my list of favorite towns in Europe!
So without further adieu, here’s a wrap-up of Perast and Kotor in Montenegro.
Perast, Montenegro
A little bit of history: Perast’s most notable history is a lot more recent than some surrounding areas. It became … Continue reading
